Scott Produced Bear Family Records' Red Simpson Box Set

On March 6th, Bear Family Records will release a 5-disc box set chronicling the career of Bakersfield Sound pioneer Red Simpson. Scott produced the set and wrote the liner notes for the included 108-page hardcover book. Here's a preview:



On March 8th, Scott will be at Buck Owens' Crystal Palace in Bakersfield when local artists stage a "Tribute to Red Simpson" concert. He'll have sets available for sale, and Red will be on hand for those who want an autograph. If you don't live in Bakersfield and would like to purchase one, you can pre-order it from Amazon.com or contact Scott directly for a $14 discount.

Scott's Work With The Country Music Hall of Fame's Upcoming "Bakersfield Sound" Exhibit

Scott recently completed an essay called "Dim Lights, Thick Smoke, and Loud, Loud Music: The Story of the Bakersfield Sound" that will appear in the companion book to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's upcoming exhibit, "The Bakersfield Sound: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and California Country Music." The exhibit opens to the public on Friday, March 23rd and Scott will be moderating a panel discussion at the Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 24th featuring Bakersfield Sound pioneers Red Simpson, Jean Shepard, Dallas Frazier, Rose Lee Maphis, and Buddy Mize.

LEIBER AND STOLLER MUSIC

Scott is currently working with Leiber and Stoller Music to help organize and archive their files, tapes, and various treasures collected during a 60 + year partnership. For those who don't know the team of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, they wrote classic songs such as "Hound Dog," "Kansas City," "Jailhouse Rock," "Stand By Me," "Yakety Yak," "Charlie Brown," "On Broadway," "Love Potion #9," "Young Blood," "Is That All There Is?," and many more than led to their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As businessmen, Leiber and Stoller published hits including "Good Rockin' Tonight," "Fever," "Chantilly Lace," "The Twist," "Da Doo Ron Ron," "Then He Kissed Me," "Be My Baby," Do Wah Diddy Diddy," "Good Lovin'," "Chapel of Love," "Under the Boardwalk," "Summer in the City," and "Happy Together."

Scott has just begun work researching a book he'll write to accompany Bear Family Records' second Hank Thompson box set. The multi-disc collection will chronicle the post-Capitol recordings of the Country Music Hall of Fame member and influential western swing and honky tonk pioneer.
