scott b. bomar: Services

Scott grew up in a Nashville music business family, worked as a professional songwriter, moved to the other side of the desk at the world’s largest music publisher, and spent several years in the non-profit sector.  His wide array of experiences means that he has the tools and the know-how to assist you with music-related projects, both big and small.  That’s why he’s the go-to guy for getting those odd jobs of the music world completed.  Here’s a list of some of the services Scott offers.  Have a project that doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories?  Maybe Scott can help you.  Just call or email and he’ll be happy to discuss it with you!

Liner Notes, Research, and Project Development

Experienced with writing liner notes, researching discographies, and interviewing artists and music industry personalities, Scott is the right choice for contributing to album notes, historical essays, and similar efforts.  Past projects include writing and developing a music-themed historical driving tour for a city’s convention and visitor’s bureau, producing and writing for deluxe CD box sets, consulting for a major music foundation, moderating educational panels, and writing an essay for a music museum exhibit’s companion book.

Organization and Archival Projects for Companies & Individuals
Are you a music publisher, record label, artist or songwriter who has collected files, tapes, photos, articles and other ephemera that is in serious need of being organized?  Maybe you need the help of a personal organizer, but require someone who understands the music business to know what they’re looking at and how to properly categorize it.  If this describes your situation, Scott is just the person you need.

Assisting Music Publishers and Copyright Holders with Licensing

With several years of experience issuing licenses on behalf of Universal Music Publishing Group (both directly and in coordination with the Harry Fox Agency), Scott is in a unique position to assist publishers, songwriters and other rights holders with their licensing needs.  Possessing a solid understanding of controlled composition clauses and copyright law guidelines, Scott is the independent mechanical licensing specialist to call - whether you’re an individual with a one-time project or a large company that needs temporary assistance to get caught up on your backlog.

Assisting Record Labels and Independent Artists in Obtaining Licenses

Whether you’re a record label that’s navigating the intricacies of obtaining appropriate licenses from the publishers of your artists’ songs, or an independent artist who needs help getting the right license for a cover song on your latest project, let Scott handle it for you.

Identifying Rights Holders

Perhaps one of your relatives was a songwriter or musician, but you don’t know who now owns the rights to their songs or recordings.  Scott will dig up the facts and give you the information you need to make wise decisions regarding your loved one's intellectual property.  Why feel overwhelmed when you can let Scott help you navigate the process?

Educating Churches and Non-Profits Regarding Copyright Issues
What are the rules when it comes to churches and other religious organizations using music, movies, images, or other copyrighted material?  How can they incorporate media and music into their services while making sure they’re in compliance with copyright law to avoid being sued?  Scott can consult with individual institutions, and he also offers a brief seminar on the subject for various groups.

Assistance with Selling or Acquiring Vintage Instruments or Music Collectables

Have a potentially valuable guitar that you’d like to sell, but don’t know the first thing about selling guitars?  Did you inherit a bunch of old records that you’d like to get rid of, but don’t know how much they’re worth?  Maybe you know what you’ve got, but just don’t have the time to deal with it.  Let Scott help you sell your instruments, records and music collectables for a reasonable percentage of the sale price.  Maybe there’s a particular instrument or piece of music memorabilia out there that you’re hoping to purchase.  Scott can help you find just what you’re looking for.

Talent Coordinator

Scott is an experienced talent assistant (aka celebrity wrangler) and has worked as a liaison between production crews and guests at several entertainment awards shows.  Those he’s been assigned to work with include Academy Award nominees Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, Winter's Bone) and Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), Academy Award winner Mickey Rooney, Grammy nominee Brian McKnight, Grammy winners Macy Gray and Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. (The 5th Dimension), screen legend Jane Russell, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Spider-Man creator Stan Lee, actors Delroy Lindo (Gone in 60 Seconds, Malcolm X), Fred Willard (Best in Show, Everybody Loves Raymond), Kate Flannery (The Office), Danny Trejo (Machete, Spy Kids), John Ratzenberger (Cheers), and football greats Rosie Grier and Randall Cunningham.  If you need someone who’s capable and professional to work in a support role for celebrity events, Scott has the ability and experience to do the job.

Consulting

If you're looking for a music licensing consultant, a music history fact-checker, a referral for a good musician, a music supervisor for an independent film project, a writer/editor/proofreader, someone to bounce ideas off of, or just somebody who might be able to point you in the right direction as you navigate the music business, give Scott a call.  If he doesn’t have the answer he’ll help you find it!  Here are a few of the organizations that Scott has worked for, worked with, or with whom he has had a professional affiliation:
