THE BOMARS
The Bomars are the musical and marital duo of Emmy winner Melanie Bomar and 3-time GRAMMY nominee Scott B. Bomar. The pair moved from Nashville to Los Angeles in the early 2000s and carved out a niche with their rootsy folk-influenced Americana sound. Scott signed a deal with Sony Music Publishing, where he collaborated with fellow songwriters such as Brandy Clark and Eric Church. Melanie joined The Buzzards, fronted by legendary guitarist Will Ray, and composed music for commercials and television shows such as Extra!, TMZ, and Ellen.
As an acoustic duo, the pair performed from LA’s famed Sunset Strip to Nashville’s legendary Bluebird Café. Their music won recognition from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, Jewel’s Soul City Café song competition, and the ASCAP Plus award for writers whose works have “a unique prestige value.” They won second place in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at the MerleFest music festival from a panel of four judges that included Gillian Welch and Jim Lauderdale. Scott released two solo albums (This Kind and Radio Drive), Melanie released one (Neither Slave Nor Free), and the pair released a duo album called Maladies of Love.
Over time, Melanie pursued a career as a successful psychotherapist and Scott became an author of music-related books, including collaborations with The Byrds, The Zombies, Wanda Jackson, and legendary songwriter Lamont Dozier. During the pandemic, Scott and Melanie re-formed their musical duo for a virtual performance, and a new era for The Bomars was born. Though they have a deep catalog of original material, they’ve rediscovered the simple joy of making music by focusing primarily on cover songs for casual performances at coffee shops, house concerts, restaurants, private parties and small festivals.
